Background of the study
Twitter threads in Nigeria serve as a dynamic medium for morphosyntactic experimentation, where users adapt conventional grammar to the constraints of short, interconnected messages. These threads exhibit innovative syntactic constructions, including non‑standard clause linkages, creative punctuation, and compressed sentence structures (Ibrahim, 2023). The digital constraints of Twitter foster an environment in which traditional morphosyntactic norms are reconfigured to accommodate rapid interaction and brevity. This study appraises the morphosyntactic patterns in Nigerian Twitter threads by analyzing a corpus of interconnected tweets across diverse topics. It explores how digital affordances—such as character limits and real‑time feedback—drive syntactic innovation and reshape grammatical structures. The research aims to uncover patterns of deviation from standard syntax, shedding light on the evolving nature of language in digital contexts (Okafor, 2024). By comparing these patterns with traditional norms, the study contributes to the development of new linguistic models that integrate digital influences on language.
Statement of the problem
While innovative morphosyntactic patterns are evident in Nigerian Twitter threads, there is limited systematic research on these digital adaptations. Existing studies tend to examine tweets in isolation rather than analyzing the collective structure of threads, hindering our understanding of how digital constraints shape syntax. This gap restricts our ability to develop comprehensive models of morphosyntactic evolution in online discourse (Chukwu, 2023).

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it provides an in-depth analysis of morphosyntactic innovation in digital communication, offering insights into how Twitter shapes language evolution. The findings will inform linguistic theory and digital communication practices (Ibrahim, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to analyzing Twitter threads among Nigerian users, excluding other platforms and offline language.
Definitions of terms
• Morphosyntax: The study of word formation and sentence structure.
• Twitter Threads: Series of interconnected tweets.
